Understanding God’s Love
God’s Love Sent Jesus to us
Jesus loves us so much that He prayed that we would be saved and to be one with Him and the Father. We must choose to believe and focus on the love God has for us by faith! God loves you because He is love. God loves you so much that He sent Jesus to redeem us back to Him and gave us the Holy Spirit to guide, convict, guide, and comfort us. Most people do not live like they believe God loves them. They seem to struggle with believing He does love them.
People don’t trust God’s love because they don’t believe He loves them. It’s because of a lack of faith. Faith and belief must be in their heart, their minds can’t comprehend the love of God. They question His love, by saying, “How could a loving God allow bad things to happen or send anyone to hell?” Questions like this come from those who don’t know God or born-again believers who spend very little or no time in the Word of God. To understand God, you must be a born-again believer, diligent, and maturing in His Word.
The proof of God’s love
The proof of God’s love for us is in the fact that He sent Jesus who became the sacrifice for our sins. “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this way, the love of God was revealed to us, that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we must also love one another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and His love is perfected in us.” (1 John 4:7-16).
God gave us Jesus and the Holy Spirit, to live in us because He loves us. The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to us and the church. However, Christians will say, “I believe,” but unfortunately, they underestimate God’s love for them because if they did believe in their heart, their lives would demonstrate their belief.
A double-minded man
When feelings are under pressure, your true belief will be revealed. A double-minded man cannot believe anything. He goes back and forth, “But let him ask in faith, without wavering. For he who wavers is like a wave of the sea. driven and tossed with the wind. ” (James 1:6-7) MEV.
We must be single-minded and believe that God will take care of us especially when temptations, tests, and trials come our way. An example of this is the disciples, who, at times, were double-minded men. When they were in a boat and a storm came up putting them in trouble, they woke Jesus who was asleep. They called Jesus, “Teacher,” and said, “Don’t You care?” That’s being double-minded. “He was in the stern asleep on a pillow. They woke Him and said, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” “He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:38, 40) MEV.
You must choose to believe God’s love by faith or this is the result, “Let not that man think that he will receive anything from the Lord.” (James 1:7) MEV.
Choose Faith over the flesh
How you feel will attempt to control your mind, as will trying to make decisions based on your past experiences and the opinions of others concerning the circumstances around you. Your mind doesn’t know anything, except what it has been taught. However, your mind can be re-trained. It must be renewed. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2).
The truth is that God loves you and me just as much as He loves Jesus. Because of that love, Jesus prayed that we be one with the Father and with Jesus, “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they may all be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You. May they also be one in Us, that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory which You gave Me, that they may be perfect in unity, and that the world may know that You have sent Me and have loved them as You have loved Me.” (John 17:20-23) MEV.
Our flesh wants to be aligned with the things of the world because they seem to be more appealing. Choosing the ways of the world may bring excitement into your life but it only lasts for a short duration and your disobedience only leads you further away from the Lord. It leads you further into the darkness of Satan’s realm and the road to hell. We should be hungry to know more of God’s love, and the ways of God, instead of the world’s ways, and that only comes by being diligent in the Word of God.
Decision time
Jesus prayed that you would be one with Him and the Father. It’s up to you to make the right decision, to believe your feelings and the opinions of others on who has control of your mind and life, or the Word of God. If you are in that doubting realm then you need to repent, confess your weakness and doubt and turn your life back over to the Lord. Get back into the Word by praying, reading, hearing, meditating and studying the scriptures. “Study to show yourself approved by God, a workman who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth,” (2 Timothy 2:15) MEV.
You must choose to believe God’s love by faith, because faith without love doesn’t work.
