When we receive Jesus as our Savior and Lord, He comes to live in us through His Holy Spirit and we begin to live in Him (John 15:5, 7). It’s through faith that we live in Him, by believing what the Word of God says.
Jesus became victorious over sin when He died on the cross for us. He was buried and he rose again three days later. When we were baptized, we died with Him and being immersed we were buried with Him and as we were raised from the water, we too were raised with Him (Romans 6:4–5). Just as He is seated on the throne beside God (Ephesians 1:20), so we also are seated with Him (Ephesians 2:6).
The Bible speaks about who we are in Christ, and how powerful our position in Him is.
- He has saved us and called us to a holy life
“Who has saved us and called us with a Holy calling, not by our works, but by His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.” (2 Timothy 1:9) MEV
- We are called to be holy and blameless
“Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before Him in love.” (Ephesians 1:4) MEV
- We were marked in him with a seal
“In Him you also, after hearing the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and after believing in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.” (Ephesians 1:13).” Mev
- We can’t be separate us from the love of God
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities nor powers, neither things present nor things to come, neither height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38–39) MEV
- We have redemption in Christ
“In him we have redemption through his blood, and forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” (Ephesians 1:7) MEV
- We become the righteousness of God in Christ
“God made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21) MEV
- We are a new creation in Christ
“Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away. Look, all things have become new”. (2 Corinthians 5:17) MEV
After believing in Christ and you begin trusting Him as your Savior and Lord, you will begin to understand who you are. You will no longer work trying to earn what is already yours as a gift from God. And then you will also know who you are in Christ.
